My name is Melissa Romero, I have been a Registered nurse for thirteen years. I have worked with the Head Start Program for the last four years. I completed my education in Las Vegas at both Luna Community College and New Mexico Highlands University. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in both Nursing and Biology and am in the process of completing a Master’s Degree in Public Health Nursing. Currently, I work as the Health Specialist/Nurse for the Head Start program and am a part time employee at our local hospital. Because of these differing roles, I like to think that I am up to date in my knowledge of nursing and am attuned to the needs of the community. I chose to come to Head Start because I agree with their philosophy. I believe that low income families will benefit from a comprehensive program that serves the needs of both the child and their family. I also believe that the community can have a direct impact on child outcomes. For this reason, I felt I could make a greater impact as a nurse for our community by working in a program that supports the parental role, provides comprehensive services, and advocates for early intervention to prepare children for school. I look forward to working with each of your families here at the West Las Vegas Head Start & Early Head Start Program.
